Senior Economist, Bill NatcherThe run-up in oil prices over the past few months has acted as a dark cloud shadowing an otherwise robust expansion of the U.S. economy. During May, gasoline rose above two dollars per gallon, and crude oil futures prices climbed above $40 per barrel. Prices have eased somewhat since then, but concerns remain that if prices linger at these elevated levels, economic growth will eventually be thwarted. And while there is little debate that higher energy costs act to drain purchasing power, there are two misconceptions worth clarifying about our current energy situation.
